Adani Defence and Aerospace has been selected to locally manufacture the R-74E air-to-air missile, referred to as Raya in India, potentially enhancing the Indian Air Force’s (IAF) capabilities. This missile is part of a modernization effort to replace the ageing R-73E, which has been a crucial component of the IAF’s arsenal, especially during the 2019 India-Pakistan conflict. The R-74E boasts advanced features such as high off- boresight capability and thrust vectoring, positioning it as a competitive alternative to Western missiles. By producing Raya domestically, India aims to bolster its self-reliance in defense and maintain operational readiness of its Russian platforms, addressing both technological gaps and geopolitical sensitivities.
