The Defence Acquisition Council (DAC), under Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, has approved capital acquisition proposals exceeding Rs 54,000 crore to bolster India’s military capabilities across the Army, Navy, and Air Force. Key procurements include 1,350 HP engines for T-90 tanks to enhance mobility in high- altitude areas, advanced Varunastra anti-submarine torpedoes, and Airborne Early Warning & Control aircraft systems to improve aerial situational awareness. Additionally, the DAC is implementing reforms to expedite the procurement process, reducing timelines from 96 weeks to 24 weeks and enhancing accountability to prevent cost escalations. These initiatives represent a significant step towards modernizing India’s defense forces, addressing bureaucratic inefficiencies, and ensuring timely delivery of critical military assets.
