The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has achieved a significant advancement in India’s defense and aerospace sector by successfully developing near isothermal forging technology, crucial for manufacturing high-pressure compressor discs used in aero-engines. This innovation, executed by the Defence Metallurgical Research Laboratory (DMRL) in Hyderabad, enhances production capabilities for titanium alloy components, aligning with India’s self- reliance goals. The technology has been transferred to Mishra Dhatu Nigam Limited (MIDHANI) for large-scale production, with 200 HPC disc forgings already supplied to Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) for integration into the Adour engine, which powers the Indian Air Force’s Jaguar and Hawk aircraft, boosting operational readiness and maintenance capabilities
