The Indian Army has successfully trialed indigenous First-Person View (FPV) kamikaze drones, marking a significant leap in tactical warfare capabilities. Developed by Major Cephas Chetan and the Terminal Ballistics Research Laboratory, these drones are designed for high-impact strikes with advanced safety mechanisms to prevent accidental detonation. Having produced over 100 drones by March 2025, the Army’s self-reliant approach ensures quality control and adaptability for diverse operational environments. Each drone, costing approximately ₹1.4 lakh, offers a cost- effective alternative to foreign systems, aligning with India’s Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative. While the current order of five drones with 95 more on procurement is promising, scaling production to 100,000 units could further enhance effectiveness and reduce costs, positioning India strategically in modern warfare amidst evolving threats. This initiative underscores India’s commitment to innovation and self-sufficiency in defense technology.
