The DRDO has proposed a Self-Propelled Air Defence Gun Missile System (ADGM-SP) based on the Light Tank Zorawar to enhance the Indian Army’s air defence against aerial threats. This hybrid system features twin 30mm guns and integrates a Very Short-Range Air Defence System (VSHORADS), promising mobility and adaptability for operations in high-altitude areas like Ladakh. The design aims to provide a cost-effective, indigenous solution, aligning with the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative. With a prototype expected within 18 months, the initiative underscores India’s commitment to strengthening its defense capabilities amid evolving threats from adversaries. The project reflects a strategic shift towards self-reliance in military technology and indigenous production.
