The Indian Air Force (IAF) has called upon private sector firms to develop indigenous Main Rotor Blades for its Mi-17 helicopters, crucial for various operations across India. The current reliance on Russian-made blades poses challenges due to limited Total Technical Life (TTL) and long lead times in supply, especially amid geopolitical tensions. By fostering local manufacturing, the IAF aims to enhance the reliability and operational readiness of its fleet, reduce procurement costs significantly, and meet increasing demands, particularly in high-stress areas like Ladakh. This initiative underscores India’s commitment to bolstering its defense capabilities and self-reliance in the military sector.
