The Indian Air Force (IAF) is planning to develop a supersonic Unmanned Combat Aerial Vehicle (UCAV) with a significant weapon capacity of 4 tons and super cruise capabilities by 2040, complementing its current Ghatak UCAV program. The Ghatak, designed for deep strike and reconnaissance, will feature stealth capabilities and an internal weapon load of 1.5 tons. This ambitious future UCAV aims to maintain India’s strategic edge against regional adversaries, integrating advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence and sophisticated stealth features, while remaining an indigenous endeavor. The project acknowledges the technological challenges involved, with a potential operational date projected around 2035-2040.
