The Indian Air Force (IAF) is set to enhance its operational capabilities significantly by 2025-26, focusing on indigenous acquisitions, which include advanced aircraft like the TEJAS Light Combat Aircraft, helicopters, and 12 new Airborne Early Warning and Control Systems to address current surveillance gaps. With an investment of approximately ₹1,39,596.60 crore over the past five years, the IAF is committed to bolstering domestic defense manufacturing aligned with the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative. This includes the upgrade of existing Sukhoi Su-30MKI jets and the integration of modern technologies into new platforms, thereby reducing dependence on foreign systems. The IAF’s strategic procurement reflects a proactive approach to countering regional threats, particularly from China and Pakistan, and reinforces India’s stance on self-reliance in defense capabilities. The planned acquisitions illustrate a comprehensive strategy to modernize forces and ensure readiness against evolving security challenges.
