The Ministry of Defence has formalised a significant contract worth over ₹660 crore
with BrahMos Aerospace Private Limited for the procurement of BrahMos Fire
Control Systems and Launchers for frontline Indian Navy warships. The agreement,
signed under the Buy (Indian–Indigenously Designed, Developed and Manufactured)
category, underscores India’s commitment to strengthening self-reliance in defence
production. The signing ceremony was held in New Delhi in the presence of Defence
Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh.
With a minimum of 68% indigenous content, the project is expected to generate
substantial opportunities for Indian industries, particularly Micro, Small and Medium
Enterprises (MSMEs). This aligns with the government’s Atmanirbhar Bharat vision,
encouraging domestic innovation and industrial participation in critical defence
projects.
The BrahMos missile system, already deployed on several frontline warships, is the
Indian Navy’s primary surface-to-surface strike weapon. Known for its precision,
speed, and versatility, the system enhances maritime strike capabilities and
strengthens India’s deterrence posture in the Indian Ocean Region. The new
procurement will further bolster India’s maritime security architecture, ensuring
readiness against evolving threats and safeguarding national interests.
Industry experts view this contract as a strategic step towards consolidating India’s
naval firepower while simultaneously boosting indigenous defence manufacturing.
The collaboration between the Defence Ministry and BrahMos Aerospace highlights
the synergy between government policy and private-sector innovation in advancing
India’s defence preparedness.
