The Indian Navy is set to replace its aging MiG-29K fleet with 22 single-seater Rafale-M fighters and four dual- seat Rafale-B trainer aircraft, with a formal agreement anticipated in April 2025 and deliveries starting in May 2028. This decision was driven by the Rafale-M’s superior operational capabilities, compatibility with the existing IAF Rafale fleet, and its suitability for India’s carrier operations. Additionally, Dassault Aviation may establish a final assembly line in India, supporting the “Make in India” initiative and enhancing indigenous manufacturing. The Rafale-M will significantly strengthen India’s maritime power and deterrence in the Indian Ocean Region, aligning with its network-centric warfare strategy.
