MBDA has proposed сo-developing the next-generation Advanсed Short Range Air-to-Air Missile (ASRAAM) with India, coinciding with the establishment of a local assembly facility by Bharat Dynamics Limited. Currently, the Indian Air Force (IAF) has only ordered a limited number of ASRAAMs, primarily for the Jaguar fleet, with integration efforts underway for the Tejas Mk1A and future MkII variants. The recent Block 6 standard brings significant upgrades, including a shift from U.S. components to British ones, enhancing export capabilities. The collaboration with MBDA may lead to advanced missile enhancements tailored to IAF’s evolving requirements, fortifying India’s air combat strategies.
